Phil Neville says The FA Cup is the ‘pinnacle’ of any footballer’s career, as he looks to help Everton into the quarter final this weekend.

The Toffees skipper won The Cup three times during his spell with Manchester United and reached another Final with Everton in 2009.

And the 36-year-old admits that it was always one of his childhood ambitions to get his hands on The Cup.

Neville told FATV: "It's everything that you dream of.

"When I was growing up, the one thing I wanted to do in terms of honours, was to win The FA Cup, not win the league or the Champions League.

"It's almost been ingrained in me from watching football and The FA Cup was the pinnacle.

“It was the best day of the year when you all sat down in front of the telly on Saturday and cheered on a team.

“It didn't have to even be your team. If your team wasn't there, you'd choose another.

"When I got to my first Final, it felt like the pinnacle at the time.”

Everton face a tricky test against Oldham on Saturday, with the League One outfit looking to knock out another Merseyside team after their win over Liverpool in the last round.

With David Moyes’ side now in the last 16, Neville knows that it’s only three wins until The Final.

And he still can’t forget his first FA Cup Final, which came in 1996 with United’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

He added: "It wasn't just the game, it was the build-up, the drive to the stadium and even things like pinning a flower to your suit.

"It was the things that your heroes had done.

"I've been lucky that I've managed to do it a few times.”
