Dereham Town have enjoyed a fine start to their Eastern Counties League campaign, having gone unbeaten and winning six out of their seven games.

But with the Metropolitan Police in town on Saturday, manager Matt Henman is expecting his side to receive a thorough check, as they play for a place in The FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying in front of a fervent home crowd.

He said: "The whole club is excited, but we need to remember that they play two leagues higher than us, so we will need to concentrate on what we need to do to stop them.

"Our squad this year is the strongest we've had in the last four or five years - that shows in the league form.

"But we've been helped in The Cup with home draws."

The dream  for Henman, as it is for many non-League managers and players, is getting to the First Round Proper and the opportunity to have a crack at facing a Football League outfit.

And with that stage of the competition just two wins away, Dereham can't help but imagine the prospect of lining-up against the professionals.

"That's the dream," admitted Henman. "That's our equivalent to Premier League teams getting to The Final."

Dereham, according to former player Henman, has a real "family feel to it". Henman's uncle and father got Lottery funding for the club back in the mid-90s, and the current side involves two sets of brothers.

One team close to the 'family' is Lowestoft Town, and Henman hopes that with their help, the Norfolk-based club's Cup run can go on past Saturday.

He added: "I know people there, and they're in the same league as the Met Police, so I'll be ringing them up in the next few days to try and get some pointers!"
