Hastings United’s fairytale FA Cup campaign rolls on after they beat Harrogate Town 5-4 on penalties in their Second Round Replay.
The Sussex side, who are the lowest ranked side remaining in the competition, will now travel to Middlesbrough in January after Dee Okijie’s decisive spot-kick secured victory.
Hastings took to Pilot Field without the suspended Jamie Crellin who had netted their equaliser when the two sides’ drew 1-1 in their first encounter.
The game's opening chance fell to the home side’s Sean Ray, but his shot was easily held by Craig MacGillivray.
A tight first half produced no goals, but the deadlock was broken within two minutes of the restart.
Matt Bloomer felled Zac Attwood inside the box and Lee Carey confidently placed the ball beyond MacGillivray.
Hastings must have thought they had one foot in the Third Round as they entered the closing stages with their lead intact.
But Tom Platt, who was on target for Harrogate in the last game, found the bottom corner of the net with 22 seconds remaining. His strike sent the tie into extra time.
However, neither team could find the winner and the game went to penalties.
The hosts took the advantage early on as Platt skied his effort, but Danny Ellis handed Harrogate a reprieve when he missed Hastings’ fifth kick.
Fortunately for him, though, Lee Elam failed to hit the target with Harrogate’s next penalty, leaving Okijie with the opportunity to clinch his side’s place in the Third Round Proper.
He held his nerve to secure the Isthmian Premier Division outfit a lucrative trip to the Riverside Stadium.
