East Thurrock United's FA Cup with Budweiser adventure came to an end at the hands of League Two Macclesfield Town on Saturday.

Carl Tremarco opened the scoring at the end of the first half before two goals in five second half minutes from Matt Hamshaw and George Donnelly eased the Silkmen into Round Two.

The Essex minnows had played six games in reaching the First Round, winning replays at St Albans City and North Greenford United along the way to set up this tie with Macclesfield Town at their tiny Rookery Hill ground.

But there was no lucky number seven for East Thurrock as Carl Tremarco's goal just before the break signalled the beginning of the end for the Rocks' FA Cup dream.

United saw protests for handball waved away by the referee as Colin Daniel sent in a low cross from the right-hand side of the penalty area and Tremarco arrived in the box to smash the ball into the roof of the net on 42 minutes.

It was tough luck on the Isthmian Premier League strugglers who had created the better first half chances.

Kris Newby saw a looping header go over the bar on six minutes and Sam Higgins went close after Veiga had slipped on the edge of the penalty area.

The Cape Verde international keeper recovered to block Higgins at the second attempt and steer Macclesfield away from danger and Reiss Gilbey went close with a cheeky lob after a great long ball from Ben Wood.

Tremarco's strike went against the run of play and quick fire goals from Matt Hamshaw and George Donnelly just after the hour mark sealed the Silkmen's safe passage to Round Two.

Sub Matt Hamshaw headed home from close range after Richard Wray had tipped Ross Draper's vicious volley onto the bar in spectacular fashion.

And George Donnelly made it 3-0 on 64mins with a decent right foot volley from just inside the penalty area to put the tie beyond doubt.
