Round up

The First Round Proper of The FA Vase got underway on Saturday with 100 games taking place up and down the country.

And there were plenty of goals as amateur clubs aimed to emulate the success of Whitley Bay, last season's FA Vase winners.

The day's highest scorers were Bristol-based Brislington, who fired eight goals past Cornwall's Porthleven without reply.

There were also impressive victories for Wessex League side Wimborne Town, 6-1 winners against Gillingham Town and Hertfordshire-based Royston Town, who defeated Basildon United 5-0.

Cambridge Regional College were also amongst the goals. The Eastern Counties League Premier Division side, founded just three years ago, found the back of the net seven times in a comfortable victory against Cambridgeshire rivals, March Town United.

Entertainment was not in short supply in Lincolnshire at Louth United, but the home side's supporters will have been disappointed to see their team end up on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline against Sleaford Town.

Elsewhere, there were  convincing home victories for Newport Pagnell Town, Poole Town and Devon's Willand Rovers. The day's bestaway performance belonged to Sheffield's Hallam, 4-0 winners at Lancashire-based Colne FC.

Three further games take place on Sunday.
