There were 12 teams vying for a spot in the Second Round of The FA Vase on Tuesday night and Bemerton Heath Harlequins booked their place in style with a 5-1 win away at Alresford Town.

It was tough on Town, who played for more than 70 minutes with ten men after Adrian De La Nougerede was shown a straight red card after handling on the line. Jack Slade slotted home the resulting penalty to give the visitors the lead but Town hit back thanks to Kieran Gallacher's sublime free-kick after 27 minutes.

But the one-man advantage soon told, with Joe Fisher and Graham Mankin netting for Bemerton before the break. Nick Eastham's strike on 71 minutes and Slade's second of the match completed the rout for the Wiltshire club, who are away to Shortwood United in the Second Round.

It also rained goals at Congleton Town, who cruised to a 5-2 victory at home to Cheadle Town. Congleton will face Shildon in the Second Round.

Causeway United ended the dream for Loughborough University as the Sussex club claimed a 2-1 victory. The students took the lead three minutes before the break thanks to Jack Weeden's strike. Weeden profited from a defensive mix-up to slot home, but Causeway quickly drew level through Stuart Haw on the stroke of half-time.

The closely-fought match was heading towards extra time but Ben Stretton's 74th minute strike was enough for Causeway, who are rewarded with a home tie against Newcastle Town.

Elsewhere, it took extra-time to separate Shoreham and Bedfont, with goals from Rob Boddy (103) and Sam Blundell (113) enough to secure a 2-0 victory.
