Lewes made the most of their initial draw at Hampton & Richmond Borough by scoring three first-half goals in Tuesday night's replay to progress to the Second Round Proper of The FA Carlsberg Trophy.

The south coast side now travel to Kidderminster Harriers on 9 January having overcome severe weather conditions to progress in the competition.

Once the match was given the go-ahead the result was never really in doubt after Steven Brinkhurst, Tim Rivers and Scott Chamberlain all found the back of the net inside half an hour on a freezing night’s play.

Hampton pulled a goal back before half-time to give them hope going into the second half. But the Rooks defended their lead after the break as a deteriorating pitch made it difficult for both teams to play their best football.

Now the Conference South club, struggling at the wrong end of their division, face an even tougher task when they take on Conference Premier opposition in the next round with a place at Wembley ultimately up for grabs.
