Ebbsfleet United v Stalybridge Celtic
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
Second Round Proper
7.45pm, Tuesday 13 January 2009
Stonebridge Road, Ebbsfleet United FC
Winning clubs will receive £6,000 from The FA
Ebbsfleet United manager Liam Daish admits last year's FA Trophy triumph seems a long time ago, as his team look for a much-needed confidence boost after a miserable run of results.
Holders Ebbsfleet face Stalybridge Celtic in the Second Round, looking to break a run of five consecutive league defeats, with their last victory coming way back on 16 December against Bognor Regis in the previous round of The Trophy.
And Daish is hoping another good cup run can act as a springboard for his side to find some league form.
"If we were top of the league, we would perhaps be able to say the game is a welcome break from the league, but we have had a difficult spell of results," he explains.
"We always go out to win every game we play and are aiming to get cup success mixed with league points.
"We need to get back to winning ways, get our confidence back and start enjoying our football again to get the feel-good factor back around the club, starting now."
And Daish says everyone is keen to make a return to Wembley and repeat the joy they felt in beating Torquay United 1-0 in last year's Final.
"It was a great memory and a great feeling but at the moment it feels very distant. It was great to win and everyone had a great day. It left us with an expectation, though, and we've got to try and meet that now," he adds.
"We made a lot of money from the competition last year and will be looking to do so again, as it does help at this level. We are looking to build the team to get to the next level and prize money from The FA Trophy will help us achieve that cause."
