Winning clubs will receive £400 from The FAWitton Park Rose & Crown eased through to the last eight of The FA Sunday Cup with a 5-2 victory over the much-fancied Canada.
The Liverpool side were no match for the Durham men and the goals feast started with Warren Byrne hitting the back of the net after just eight minutes. Canada replied quickly with a goal two minutes later and the score was locked at 1-1 until the half-time interval.
Witton Park stepped up a couple of gears after the restart which provided Byrne with his first hat-trick for the north-east club. His third goal was a delicate free-kick over the top of the wall and the ball passed the ‘keeper on its way into the top left hand corner of the net.
By this time gaps were appearing in the Canada defence as the hosts pushed in an attempt to reduce the deficit. Matty Moffat exposed the space afforded to him with another goal on 85 minutes. With full-time fast-approaching, and the score at 4-1, the Liverpool side pushed forward and scored a consolation goal barely a minute later.
The Park finished the hosts off with the seventh goal of the afternoon from Moffat before the final whistle.
Overall, it was a fine display of football from both teams but it is Witton Park Rose & Crown who will travel to the north-west on the 22 February and are looking forward to a Fifth Round tie against Oyster Martyrs.
