Butter-ly fantastic

Palace joker lost for words after Cup hat-trick.

Crystal Palace hero Danny Butterfield helped his team through to the Fifth Round on Tuesday and was pretty much lost for words in the aftermath.

The 30-year-old is renowned for being the resident Selhurst Park dressing room joker, but even he couldn’t have made Tuesday’s events up after netting his first career hat-trick to see his side through against Wolves.

Not only that, but it was the ‘perfect hat-trick’ too as he got his first with his head, the second with his right and then completed the treble with a left-footed finish.

"I still can't believe that it was me at the end of it,” admitted the former Grimsby Town man, who had only scored seven goals in his previous 253 appearances for the south London club.

"I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's something I'll cherish for the rest of my career and it still hasn't sunk in.

"These are great nights when they happen.”

Palace are now waiting to take on Aston Villa at Selhurst Park a week on Sunday, in a game which will be televised live on ITV1 to bring some much-needed funds into the club as well as the chance to take on Martin O’Neill’s team in front of a fervent home crowd.

"It's a chance for the boys to pit themselves against a Premiership team and see Premiershipt football at Selhurst Park,” added Butterfield.

"As well as the financial side of things, I think it's going to be a great occasion again."
