For a Leeds United manager, there is no greater compliment than being compared to Don Revie, the legendary boss who led the Yorkshire club to their only FA Cup triumph in 1972.

But that is the distinction bestowed on current Leeds boss Simon Grayson by Peter Lorimer, a club legend and key member of Revie's Cup-winning side.

While Grayson tries to play down the many plaudits he has received for Leeds' storming start to the season, he admits that his long-term ambition is to replicate Revie's success.

On Saturday he takes his side to Boundary Park where they face League One rivals Oldham Athletic in The FA Cup First Round Proper, and Grayson can't help but dream of leading Leeds to their second FA Cup one day in the future.

"That Revie team was an outstanding team full of internationals and quality players," he said. "Eventually we want to replicate that group and hold that same legend status.

"We've got a long way to go before we get anywhere near that but we're giving ourselves a platform and hopefully this football club will be back to the top echelons of English football."

The clash against Oldham marks a pioneering occasion for the competition as it will be the first FA Cup First Round match to be streamed live on the internet.

Grayson is sure many people will watch the match on TheFA.com, and as a boyhood Leeds fan he fondly remembers the glamour of watching FA Cup matches in the Grayson household.

"It's good that different people will get to see the game and it shows the way football and technology have progressed," he said.

"It used to be just The FA Cup Final on television but football has moved on now and we're seeing that on the internet.

"When you're growing up in your childhood you just can't wait for FA Cup Final day to come along. You're up at 8 o'clock watching the build-up to it, with the cameras in the team hotels and on the bus.

"The whole day would be fantastic to be involved in as a family, especially if your own team was involved."

Grayson's side are full of confidence, seven points clear at the top of League One and riding high off the back of two consecutive 4-0 victories.

But Grayson is wary that The FA Cup can produce the most unlikely of upsets, something Leeds fans know well after watching their side crash out 1-0 at Histon in the Second Round last season.

Grayson said: "Last year, Leeds went to Histon and lost - everyone was waiting for a major shock and that was the major scalp of the first couple of rounds.

"Oldham is a difficult place to go to and there will be a good atmosphere but we'll have a good following, and hopefully we'll get a positive result from it."
