Having played in the 2000 FA Cup Final for Aston Villa, the competition is close to Alan Wright's heart and he is hoping to help Fleetwood Town continue their journey in the world's most famous cup competition.

"It's one of the biggest trophies in the world and with all the tradition that surrounds the event, it is a pleasure to still be playing in the First Round," said Wright, still battling away at left-back aged 38.

"The experience of playing in big games is crucial and I think the younger players look up to me for guidance to help us through games, but we are very confident that we can get a result as we are not going there just to make up the numbers."

Wright also revealed that he is looking to get into coaching, having spent time working with the youngsters in the Fleetwood academy and has just taken on a job at Blackburn Rovers to help with their academy while he is doing his UEFA 'A' License course, with management being the ultimate aim for him.

Fleetwood currently sit seventh in the Conference North and have lost just two of their last 13 games while Northampton sit 16th in League Two, having suffered relegation last season.

And 12 months ago, Fleetwood Town reached The FA Cup Second Round Proper for the first time in their history, while boss Micky Mellon also has Cup pedigree having been part of the Tranmere side that reached the quarter final in 2004.

Speaking about his Cup pedigree with Tranmere, Mellon said: "That's something that I want my players to get. You only get a few times to play in The FA Cup, if you are lucky in a career

"You have got to make sure that when The FA Cup comes around you have got to take part in it and give it your best as there are a lot of stories to be had from it.

"We have come a long way at Fleetwood in a short period of time and are starting to put the club on the map and people are realising that Fleetwood doesn't just do fish and chips."
