First Round Proper draw details
Conference high-flyers Mansfield Town brushed aside Altrincham with a convincing 3-0 victory at Field Mill. Two Rob Duffy goals and a strike from Kyle Perry earned the Stags a place in the First Round Proper at the expense of an Altrincham side reduced to ten men.
The hosts, sitting proudly in fourth place of the Conference Premier, were favourites for the tie having defeated the visitors 2-1 in a league fixture just two weeks ago.
And despite a subdued opening, Mansfield soon rattled through the gears to dispatch the below-par visitors. Duffy opened the scoring for the Stags after 20 minutes.
The striker, left unmarked at the near post, nodded Perry’s teasing cross home for his tenth goal of an increasingly productive season.
And just seven minutes Duffy made the most of a goalkeeping error to grab both his and Mansfield’s second goal of the day.
The hosts came out after the half-time interval in search of more goals and Perry effectively settled the game in the 62nd minute.
The forward made space on the edge of the 18-yard box before drilling a shot past Stuart Coburn in the Altrincham goal, with the help of a deflection.
The Robins miserable day was completed when midfielder Tom Kearney was shown a straight red card three minutes from time for hacking down Gary Mills.
