Third Round Qualifying
Saturday 11 October 2008
Winning clubs will receive £7,500 from The FA
The draw for The FA Cup's Third Round Qualifying was made at Soho Square today, with 40 ties due to be played on 11 October. It's the penultimate round of the Qualifying Competition.
The best teams on paper are from the Conference North and South, who saw their first Cup action of the season at the weekend. North leaders Southport edged Vauxhall Motors 3-2 at home and have now earned themselves a home draw against Boston United. Hayes & Yeading United, South table-toppers, will go to Kingstonian if they win tomorrow night's home replay with Middlesex rivals Staines Town.
AFC Wimbledon, currently third in the Conference South, are certain to be well-supported whether at home or away. Success in tomorrow's replay against Bedford Town at Kingsmeadow will see them at Dover Athletic in the next round. AFC Telford United, who attracted 1,262 fans to Saturday's tie, now travel south to play at Dulwich Hamlet or Hendon.
A sprinkling of Step Five clubs have made it through to this stage. They include Frome Town from the Western League, who play at home to Team Bath, and Leiston, the Eastern Counties League side who won surprisingly at Carshalton, who have a home tie with Coalville Town, also from Step Five.Southam United, the Midland Combination outfit from Step Six, are still in the competition. Their Second Round Qualifying replay at Atherstone Town takes place tomorrow. The winners will host Chipstead.
