Barrow caused the first upset of The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON Second Round by knocking out League Two side Brentford at Holker Street.

Brentford were reduced to ten men when Ben Hamer was sent off and David Brown scored a first half penalty, Matt Henny scored the winner to cancel out Charlie MacDonald's equaliser.

Co-manager Dave Bayliss said: "It means everything for Darren [Sheriden, co-manager], the players, the chairman and all the fans.

"I thought we deserved it. They were always going to be in the game and they had one chance and got one goal.

"But we came back twice as strong and I thought we deserved the winner. We know we can play well in the big games, we have big game players and we showed that tonight."

Barrow got off to the better start as they adapted to the difficult conditions and pressed the Brentford goal in the opening exchanges.

It was the conditions that played a decisive role in the turning point of the first half when Brentford goalkeeper Hamer let a simple ball slid out of his hands and the ball to fell to Jason Walker and in a moment of desperation Hamer tripped the striker to prevent him from scoring.

Referee Colin Webster had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot and showing Hamer a straight red card.

Brentford manager Andy Scott took the decision to sacrifice midfielder Craig Pead for keeper Lloyd Anderson, but the youngster was unable to prevent Brown from giving the hosts the lead from the penalty spot for his 99th goal of his career.

Despite being a man down, Brentford came out for the second half in a more determined fashion and were back in the game ten minutes after the restart through MacDonald.

MacDonald latched onto a Sam Wood through ball and poked home the equalizer through a busy penalty area.

But the Conference Premier side were determined to cause an upset against their league opposition and got their reward when Matt Henny finished off a Paul Brown cross to send the Cumbrian side into the third round for the first time since 1991 and spark a pitch invasion at full-time.

Goal scorer Henney added: ""It is unbelievable and I hope we get a good draw now in the next round, a Premier League team away will do.

"All the money from The Cup helps and it is massive for Barrow and massive for the club as well."
