E.ON Player of the Round 2008-09
Third Round Qualifying
Five players are once again in the frame to be voted 'E.ON Player of the Round' and take their place at The FA Cup Final on 30 May, following their performance in the Third Round Qualifying.
The first name on the shortlist is Boston United goalkeeper Martyn Margarson. Despite enjoying 80 per cent possession and registering 20 shots on goal, Southport were unable to penetrate the Boston goal, thanks to the heroics of Margarson.
Danny Lennon is the second nomination after coming off the bench to inspire a 2-0 victory for Evesham over Chasetown, who reached the Third Round Proper last season. Danny created the first goal and scored the second in injury time.
Durham City produced one of the shocks of the round by comprehensively defeating Stalybridge Celtic, and much of this was down to a maginificent hat-trick by Gavin Cogdon. After levelling matters early on, Cogdon then scored a header from a corner in the first-half and another header in the second half.
AFC Totton's Craig Davis scored a unique first-half hat-trick against Fleet Town, as all three goals were scored from the penalty spot in a 5-2 victory.
The final name on our shortlist is Nantwich Town's Michael Lennon. Nantwich pulled off a resounding 5-1 victory over Whitley Bay, with Michael Lennon the pick of the players, scoring four of the five goals.
The five names were selected by a panel which includes Mark Clemmit of Radio Five Live, Howard Wheatcroft of the Daily Star, Ricky George of the Daily Telegraph, ITV pundit Andy Townsend and E.ON Managing Director Graham Bartlett.
The 'E.ON Player of the Round' award is presented to the outstanding player at each stage of competition, starting from the First Round Qualifying all the way to the Semi-Final.
'E.ON Player of the Round' winners will receive VIP hospitality for themselves and their guest at The FA Cup Final on Saturday 30 May 2009. The winner of each award will also be presented with a commemorative trophy.
Voting closes at 9am on Monday 20 October 2008.
