E.ON Player of the Round 2008-09
First Round Proper

Five players are once again in the frame to be voted 'E.ON Player of the Round' and take their place at The FA Cup Final on 30 May, following their display in the First Round Proper.

The first name on the list is Droylsden’s goalkeeper Kyle Clancy. 19 year-old Clancy came on in the 20th minute and ended up taking the man-off-the-match award after a string of fine saves earned Droylsden a replay against Darlington, who are currently riding high at the top of League Two.

Clancy's saves included a point-blank header that seemed destined for the goal from Richie Foran.

Wycombe Wanderer’s Matt Harrold earns his place after performing superbly upfront on his own against AFC Wimbledon. Harrold was a constant menace throughout the game and scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win - the only hat-trick of the First Round.

Blyth Spartan’s Shaun Reay was the scorer of two goals to inspire a famous win for a famous old club. Blyth Spartans produced a giant-killing 3-1 win over Shrewsbury Town. The first goal was also the fastest goal of the round in 26 seconds.

Histon’s captain Mathew Mitchel-King produced an inspirational performance as they managed to keep a clean sheet in a giant-killing 1-0 win over League Two outfit Swindon.

Finally AFC Telford’s Jon Adams produced a terrific midfield display and managed to score two goals in thirteen second-half minutes to put Telford on the point of a shock win over Southend, only for Jean-Francois Christophe to snatch an equaliser in injury time.

The five names were selected by a panel which includes Mark Clemmit of Radio Five Live, Howard Wheatcroft of the Daily Star, Ricky George of the Daily Telegraph, ITV pundit Andy Townsend and E.ON Managing Director Graham Bartlett.

The 'E.ON Player of the Round' award is presented to the outstanding player at each stage of competition, starting from the First Round Qualifying all the way to the Semi-Final.

'E.ON Player of the Round' winners will receive VIP hospitality for themselves and their guest at The FA Cup Final on Saturday 30 May 2009. The winner of each award will also be presented with a commemorative trophy.

Voting closes at 9am on Tuesday 18 November 2008.
