First Round Proper draw details
Oxford United, Stevenage Borough and Luton Town all secured their place in The FA Cup First Round Proper on an entertaining day of Cup action up and down the country.
Conference Premier pacesetters, Oxford United, showed they will be a match for anyone in the next round, with a convincing 2-0 win over Thurrock FC of the Conference South.
Oxford are unbeaten in the league this season and second-half goals from defender Mark Creighton and midfielder Simon Clist saw them continue their fine recent form.
However, promotion rivals Stevenage were made to work hard by a spirited performance from Chelmsford City of the Conference South. Graham Westley’s side trailed for much of the game before eventually triumphing 2-1 at Melbourne Stadium thanks to Peter Vicenti’s stoppage time winner.
Meanwhile, Kettering, lying third behind Oxford and Stevenage in the league standings, were spared an embarrassing home defeat by Redditch thanks to Moses Ashikodi’s late strike.
James Dance put the Conference North side ahead seven minutes before half-time and looked to have sealed a famous win for the visitors, only to see Ashikodi’s last minute equaliser earn a replay.
Elsewhere, there were impressive wins for Bromley, of the Conference South, who defeated Ebbsfleet United, and Woking, 5-0 winners at Hendon.
Warren McBean was on target twice for Bromley while Harry Arter helped himself to a hat-trick for Woking.
York City, Oxford City, Northwich Victoria and Luton all secured their passage into the First Round Proper but last year’s giant killers, Histon, missed out after losing 2-1 at Hinckley United.
But perhaps the best entertainment of the day was on offer on the south coast, where Eastleigh ran out 5-3 winners over hosts Dover.
One further tie takes place on Sunday when Lincoln United host Cambridge United.
