Preliminary Round
Saturday 30 August 2008
Winning clubs will receive £1,500 from The FA
Home comforts failed to help a number of teams in FA Cup Preliminary Round action on Saturday as big away wins were the order of the day up and down the country.Gloucestershire outfit Fairford Town thrashed Westbury United 6-0 on their own patch, as did Worthing at Camberley Town, while Colne and Durham City strolled to 5-0 victories at Formby and West Auckland Town respectively.
Selby Town racked up four without reply on their visit to South Shields, with Boston Town recording the same result at Fakenham Town.
Southern League Division One Midlands side Chasetown, who famously reached the Third Round of The FA Cup last season, bucked the trend with a comprehensive 5-0 home win over Carlton Town.
And Gosport Borough and Didcot Town also hit five to go through against visitors Hartley Wintney and Bournemouth, while Larkhall Athletic strolled to a 6-2 victory over Tavistock.
The majority of matches produced a result on the day, but Oldham Town and Rossendale United must play a replay following a 1-1 draw, while Bottesford Town will travel to Flixton after being held 2-2 at home.
The Preliminary Round of The FA Cup continues on Sunday, with the winners from each of the 166 ties claiming £1,500 from The FA's Prize Fund.
