Bluebirds will be back

The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON
The Final

Wembley Stadium
Winning clubs will receive £1,000,000 from The FA

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Cardiff City are going places despite losing The FA Cup Final and has vowed to stay with the club next season.

Veteran striker Hasselbaink admits it was tough to lose to Portsmouth at Wembley, but he expects Cardiff to bounce back.

"Cardiff is a club that is going places," he said.

"You saw the fans after the game, they kept on sitting there - nobody went away.

"They cheered Portsmouth lifting The Cup because they won. If it was supporters of the 'big four' they would have gone. These fans showed a lot of character for us and that's good for going forward.

"It was a massive day for Wales and a shame we couldn't bring The Cup back."

It was a close game, settled by Kanu's first half winner but the Championship side had opportunities themselves.

"There was not a lot in the game, not a lot of chances," added the Dutchman.

"They scored with a mistake from us but we stayed professional and didn't give a lot away. If we had a bit of luck we could have scored but it was not meant to be."

Hasselbaink gave Cardiff fans a boost after the match, however, by insisting he would like to stay at Ninian Park next season.

"It's a very nice club to play for," he admitted.

"I've enjoyed my year - very much. It's a great time at the club at the moment. I have another option of a year to stay and I think I'll take it up."
