Pitching up at Wembley

The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON
Player of the Round 2007/8

First Round Qualifying results

Steve Cook, Clevedon Town - 23%
Matthew Harris, Merthyr Tydfil - 15%
Adam Mitchell, Selby Town - 4%
Jack Pitcher, Gloucester City
- 58%

Jack Pitcher's love affair with The FA Cup continued when the fans voted him as The Player of the First Round Qualifying.

The Gloucester City striker scored five goals against Yate Town - a performance which earned him 58 per cent of the vote. His reward is a VIP invitation for himself and a guest to this season's FA Cup Final, which will be held at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 17 May.

He also won £500 worth of football equipment for a local school of his choice from E.ON as well as a trophy.

Steve Cook of Clevedon Town claimed 23 per cent while Matthew Harris and Adam Mitchell finished third and fourth respectively after the votes - almost 1,000 were polled - were tallied up, but it was Pitcher who led the way.

"I've never had a game like it," said the 24 year old winner. "I had five chances and they all went in. It was a good day for me.

"My second goal was my favourite. I cut in from the right and bent it in from the edge of the box with my left foot, which is my weaker foot.

"It was always going to be a tough game as they are above us in the league, but everyone played really well.

"I'm really looking forward to going to The Cup Final. I support Manchester United - hopefully they will get to The Final. I went to the Community Shield. Wembley is a phenomenal stadium. It's hard to describe how good it is."

Pitcher had the Midas touch last Saturday to book his side a place in the next round. Needless to say, the hitman will be hoping to write another chapter in his FA Cup history.

"I love playing in The FA Cup," he added. "It's a great chance to test yourself.

"Last year I got to The First Round with Clevedon. We lost 4-1 to Chester City but I scored our goal. I have some good memories from the competition."

Standing in Pitcher's way on Sunday is Shortwood United but the forward is optimistic his side can prevail on Sunday.

"We played them in pre-season and beat them," he said. "We have to be confident as we are two leagues above them, but they will be up for it. We won't be complacent."
