World Cup boost
Tuesday, 18 October 2005.
Following England’s qualification for the 2006 World Cup, seats at the new Wembley Stadium are selling out fast.
After England topped their group on Wednesday, Wembley Stadium is today announcing that three out of five sections of the gold and silver ten year seats have now sold out.
The interest in the England team in the lead up to the World Cup is clearly having a very positive effect on sales of the Club Wembley seats. Since England qualified for the World Cup, Wembley has received interest to the value of £3 million in seat sales.
Wembley is now urging football fans across the country to move fast in order not to miss out on the chance of a lifetime and witness football history in the making.
England captain, David Beckham said: "England qualifying for the World Cup is fantastic news for both the fans and the players.
"From the plans I have seen, the new national stadium will be the greatest stadium in the world and it will be a huge boost for the England team when we return to Wembley in 2006."
Chris Tomkinson, an enthusiastic England supporter and member of the England supporters club, englandfans, was one of the first football fans to buy Club Wembley seats.
He bought two gold seats in the new stadium so that he and his sons Andy and Mark can attend the big games. Chris and his sons are avid Aston Villa supporters as well, and hope one day to see their club appear at the new Wembley.
Chris said: "From what I’ve seen the new Wembley Stadium will be truly amazing and going to all the big games will be a wonderful experience to share with my sons.
"It would be lovely to imagine that one day my sons might bring their own children to the stadium and introduce another generation to the joys of supporting England."
Club Wembley is a totally new way to purchase seats and the only way to guarantee a place at all of Wembley Stadium’s greatest events over the next ten years including The FA Cup Final and Semi-Finals, all England senior home games, The Football League Cup Final, The FA Community Shield and the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final.
Club Wembley seat holders will also be given first option on all the other major events including the Football League play offs and all the music concerts. The central tier of the new stadium is dedicated to Club Wembley seat holders and encompasses a kilometre stretch of restaurants, bars and cafes.
Michael Cunnah, Chief Executive of Wembley Stadium said: "We are delighted with how popular Club Wembley has been with football fans from all over the country. With seats selling out fast we are urging fans to move quickly in order to secure their seats for what are sure to be the most
exciting events in sporting history over the next decade."
Wembley Stadium has been the setting for many of the greatest moments in sport and music history …
We’ve all seen Geoff Hurst’s famous World Cup Final hat-trick of 1966, England’s legendary win over Holland in Euro 96, Bob Geldof’s ‘greatest show on earth’ and the legendary White Horse cup final of 1923 - they all happened at Wembley Stadium.
The new stadium will once again host the biggest and most exciting events in the sporting calendar when it opens in May 2006 and this time round, you can make sure that you’re there to share in the pride and the passion first hand.
