Get behind The Bid

England 2018 Back The Bid Week is in full swing.

In just 100 days England will discover whether it has been successful in its bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

To mark the milestone, today – 24 August – has been designated national ‘Wear Your Shirt To Work Day’ and is being supported by candidate host cities, local counties and England 2018 partners including Morrisons, BT and British Airways.

The initiative is part of the Back the Bid Week, launched yesterday by England 2018 Vice-President David Beckham and coincides with the FIFA Inspection Team’s technical evaluation of the bid, also taking place this week.

The six-man FIFA team was greeted by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg MP, at Downing Street yesterday, before moving on to meet England Manager Fabio Capello during their tour of Wembley Stadium.

"I am delighted to welcome the FIFA Inspection Team to Downing Street and to have the chance to communicate the government's 100 per cent backing for the world class bid which the England 2018 Bid Team has put together," said Mr Clegg.

England 2018 Chief Executive, Andy Anson, commented: "We are looking forward to bringing our proposals to life by providing the inspectors with opportunities to experience some of our facilities first-hand and to take part in a range of presentations involving football people, from greats of the game through to community coaches and volunteers.

"We believe our Bid Book represents a strong proposal to FIFA that will focus on what it can do for football all over the world."

The FIFA delegation continue their tour around the country today, visiting the north east region and the stadia proposed to be part of 2018, and it is hoped the public will get fully behind the bid to make it a success.

More than 1.9 million fans have now officially pledged their support at www.england2018bid.com  including some of England's most famous faces from the world of sport and entertainment such as David Beckham, Lewis Hamilton Noel Gallagher, Ray Winstone and Robbie Williams.
