Coaching courses: FAQs

Some common queries surrounding FA courses.

  • How do I become a coach?

The first step to becoming a qualified coach is to enrol on an FA Coaching Course, which take place at both national sports centres and at every County FA.

For nearly all coaches, the first course they will take part in is the ‘FA Level 1 Club Coach’. This is a course designed by The FA as an introduction for all coaches with little experience or knowledge about coaching and is the perfect first step on The FA coaching ladder. You can then progress to level 2, then level 3 UEFA B licence, and finally the UEFA A licence.

  • How do I find out about employment opportunities in coaching?

The coaching opportunities that are advertised by The FA are published through The FA Coaches Association journal 'Insight'. If you wish to obtain further information on The FA Coaches Association, please call 0844 980 8212.

To enquire about coaching opportunities at professional football clubs you will need to contact the clubs directly. Contact details for all professional clubs in England can be viewed here.

County FAs also provide information on local coaching opportunities, click here for contact details of your local County.
