World Cup FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions relating to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

When does the World Cup start and finish?
The tournament runs from 11 June – 11 July 2010.

How do I get tickets for England’s fixtures at the World Cup?
Clearly demand for 2010 World Cup tickets will exceed the number of tickets available. For anyone wishing to attend the tournament, there are only two ways to officially purchase tickets, either through a national association or an approved FIFA outlet.

The FA will receive an allocation of individual tickets for each match involving England. However The FA will not receive confirmation of our group stage opponents, match venues or ticket allocation sizes until the final draw is made on 4 December this year.

Each participating nation will receive 12 per cent of the saleable capacity for each group match involving England and then 8 per cent for any potential knock-out matches. The FA will make this allocation available to members of englandfans+, the away tier of the official England supporters club and our football family.

The englandfans+ membership level currently has over 25,000 members, with a maximum of 30,000 members permitted for the 2010 World Cup campaign.

As with previous tournaments, we expect our englandfans allocation to be vastly oversubscribed. Therefore these tickets will be allocated to members on a loyalty basis i.e. fans who have attended the most matches (home and away) will have a better chance of obtaining tickets than those who have attended just a few games. Full details will be sent to all englandfans+ members shortly after the final draw takes place. To find out more about the loyalty system and to join englandfans, the official England supporters club, visit www.TheFA.com/englandfans

Apart from joining englandfans, is there any other ways to purchase World Cup tickets?
The FIFA general public sales process began in February this year, offering individual match tickets and Team Specific Tickets that follow a specific national team. Since February FIFA have already sold over 600,000 tickets , with Team Specific tickets already sold out for a number of nations. The current FIFA sales phase is due to close on 16 November 2009. For more information about the FIFA general sale process, including stadium details and ticket prices visit FIFA.com

What about official travel packages?
FIFA have also allocated a number of match tickets to carefully selected tour operators. These operators, including Thomson Sport, are authorised by FIFA to provide accommodation, transportation and other travel services, together with match tickets to all England fans.

Travel packages provided by Thomson Sport offer guaranteed access to tickets for each of England’s matches. Please note that the tickets available with Thomson packages are not taken from The FA’s ticket allocation.

Thomson Sport, also Official Overseas Supplier to the englandfans club, are offering englandfans+ members who book on one of their group stage packages before Friday 2 October 2009 complementary Category 3 match tickets (TST3) for all the group matches. To find out more or secure a place on one of Thomson’s Authorised Travel Packages, visit www.thomsonsport.com/englandfans.
