On 13 October, The FA is hosting - with the Department of Health and the Professional Footballers Association - a national conference at the City of Manchester Stadium on the relationship between football and positive mental health.
Chaired by former professional footballer and BBC presenter Ray Stubbs, the event will share the strong evidence from around the country of the positive impact football has on mental health for individuals and communities.
Prior to the conference, on the 12 October The FA is holding the first ever national mental health football tournament and awards reception, attended by the Health Minister Ivan Lewis MP and former England Captain Tony Adams.
The conference is aimed at professionals from the health and football industries who are interested in exploring and understanding the relationship between football and positive mental health. Delegates will be provided with the opportunity to gain knowledge, information, the latest research and evidence on how football really does improve mental health.
Confirmed speakers include Professor Louis Appleby, the Government's Mental Health Tsar, who will be talking about how football can improve mental health, and Dr. Alan Pringle, who will be speaking about how mental health manifests itself in football through the experiences of watching, playing, coaching and refereeing.
