Young and youth players

In addition to the drug testing, monitoring and deterrent work, it is important to recognise The FA Education / Awareness Programme throughout Football Academies and Centres of Excellence and professional football. Specialist pamphlets (age-related) have been developed using football language and literature that is felt apply to young players as a means of education to make them aware and to be educated in the whole area of drugs and the potential temptation of use.

In addition, supporting information is offered to young and youth players in this health education programme.  Educational pamphlets are aimed at three specific groups, namely, 9 - 12 years old, 13 - 17 years old, adults and players, parents Youth Coaches, Centres of Excellence Directors, Club Doctors, Physiotherapists, Youth Development Officers and anyone involved in the development of youth players. The pamphlets give information on what the drugs look like, signs of symptoms of use, behavioral disturbances, dangers and much more important information.

The programme has now been in full operation for over 7 seasons and each year all professional Club, Academy and Centre of Excellence medical staff are reminded of the need to continue to provide regular and comprehensive briefings, education and awareness for players with whom they are associated.
