Entitled 'Governance: A Guide for Football Clubs' it is based on the firm belief that football clubs hold an important position in their communities and have a responsibility to implement a high standard of governance.

It is vital for the long-term health of the game that that clubs are able to demonstrate accountability and transparency, and the Guide will assist professional and semi-professional clubs assess the effectiveness of their governance procedures and put in place improvements where necessary.

The Guide is not mandatory, but encourages the adoption of good governance procedures in the interests of each club and the game as a whole.

The Guide is aimed at helping clubs in the top six leagues, from the Premier League down to the Isthmian League, Northern Premier League and Southern Football League, and covers the many different club structures within football at these levels.

After consultation with the leagues concerned it was clear that many clubs would welcome guidance in this area.
