Howard Webb has been backed by The FA after adverse media coverage following the Poland v Austria game on Thursday.

FA Communication Director Adrian Bevington said: "We deplore the level of criticism that has been aimed at Howard Webb from overseas.

"His integrity is, and should be, without question.

"Howard is a top class referee and has consistently performed at the highest level for several years. That is why he is representing England at Euro 2008.

"We were pleased to see UEFA publicly support Howard and it is important The FA also does so.

"Brian Barwick has been in touch with Howard to offer his support and we look forward to him refereeing more games at the tournament."

Webb has been confirmed as the referee in Salzburg on Thursday when reigning champions Greece take on Spain.
