An FA spokesman said: "After Middlesbrough FC and Stewart Downing had alerted us to concerns about Ian Elliott's handling of Downing's financial affairs, Ian Elliott submitted a complaint himself.

"However, this matter is on hold until the outcome of the police action, and there is no active investigation at this moment in time."
