Goal line technology
Monday, 05 December 2005.
Following FIFA’s decision on Monday night not to adopt 'smartball' technology at the World Club Championships in Japan and next year's World Cup Finals, we can clarify The FA’s position on this matter.
We understand and respect FIFA's decision. The FA is keen to see the earliest possible adoption of goal line technology as soon as it becomes reliable and aids decision making.
The organisation has supported it for many years and will continue to do so. However, we understand the difficulties in developing the technology involved and the importance of getting it right.
Executive Director David Davies was in Peru at the Under-17 World Championships earlier this year to witness the trial run there.
The FA looks forward to FIFA re-examining and developing the 'smartball' technology in the future. We will keep you updated with any further developments on this issue.
