FA Board latest
Wednesday, 03 November 2004.
At a meeting of The FA Board at Soho Square today, the main issues for discussion were the appointment of an independent chairman to lead the structural review of the organisation and the recruitment of a Chief Executive.
Over the past two days, ten candidates have been interviewed for the position of Chief Executive by the nominations committee of The FA - Chairman Geoff Thompson, David Dein, Peter Heard and Ray Kiddell.
Further to this, three candidates will be interviewed by The FA Board at its next meeting on Thursday 25 November, with a view to making an appointment soon afterwards.
Additionally, Geoff Thompson proposed several appropriate individuals to lead the structural review. The Board considered this and agreed that a small number of those proposed will be approached with a view to becoming independent chairman.
This process will be managed by a small panel of board members – Geoff Thompson, David Sheepshanks and Roger Burden and this will be taken forward as a matter of priority.
Following the meeting, The FA Board took a guided tour of Wembley to inspect the progress of the stadium.
With 1,300 people now working on site, Wembley is on course to open with its first scheduled game - The FA Cup Final in 2006.
