John, who this week has been commentating on BBC2’s coverage of the Snooker Masters, that is taking place at Wembley Conference Centre, took time out of his busy schedule to see for himself the tremendous progress that is being made on the new Stadium.

John Parrott and his co-presenter Ray Stubbs were taken on a tour of the new stadium construction site and were excited and impressed with both the level and scale of the project.

"I’m looking forward to the opening of the new Wembley, I think the way things are going here it’s going to be a magnificent stadium - the best… Wembley has always been synonymous with football and with The FA Cup and there is something very special about coming here to see The [FA] Cup Final. Cardiff has done a great job in the meantime but this [Wembley Stadium] is where it should be played."

As John was taken on a tour of the site, he took the opportunity to re-live some of his best memories of Wembley, and particularly as a life-long Everton supporter. John pinpointed his most memorable moment at the old stadium as being the first time he ever visited Wembley in 1984, when he watched his beloved Everton beat Watford 2-0.

Hit with the agonising question of whether he would have rather witnessed the World Cup England victory of 1966 at Wembley or the awesome comeback by Everton from 2-0 down to win 3-2, in the FA Cup Final that same year at Wembley, Parrott paused and replied:

"That’s a difficult question but I suppose it would have to be England - but only in a photo finish!"
