The FA Premier League has voted in favour of the principle of a mid-winter break. In principle a two-year experiment, commencing next season has been agreed.
At a meeting in London on Wednesday afternoon, England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson made a one hour presentation during which he thanked the Premier League clubs for their support during his time so far in England and explained how a mid-winter break would benefit players, clubs, the national team and English football as a whole.
The FA Premier League, represented by the 20 club Chairmen, David Richards (FAPL Chairman) and Richard Scudamore (FAPL Chief Executive), reached a unanimous agreement to begin a two-year experiment to start next season, dependent on all parties being able to agree a balanced schedule that is mutually acceptable to all.
Sven-Goran Eriksson caught up with TheFA.com after the meeting.
"I have received a warm welcome and I must say it has been a pleasure to be part of such a positive decision," he told us.
"Now we have got to move forward by producing the acceptable schedules."
