Watmore thanks fans

Chief Executive pays tribute to the fans who attended Wednesday's game.

After a crowd of nearly 58,000 saw England beat Andorra 6-0 on Wednesday night, FA Chief Executive Ian Watmore has offered his thanks to the England supporters and London authorities.

He said: “On behalf of Fabio, the England players and The FA, I would like to thank every one of the 57,897 supporters who came to last night's match at Wembley Stadium. It was incredible to see so many people, despite very difficult journeys to and from the stadium, showing patience and resilience to turn out and give fantastic support to the England team. The support that England receives, at home and abroad, is phenomenal but we never take it for granted. I'm sure every supporter felt their effort was justified by England's performance.

“Last night's attendance would not have been possible without the close co-operation of the London authorities who worked with us to overcome the challenges presented by this industrial action. I would like to thank Transport for London, Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police and Brent Council for their help in ensuring that so many supporters were able to safely get to Wembley.

“Clearly there were a number of supporters who purchased tickets but were unable to travel to Wembley and we intend to communicate the process for refunds by the close of play on Friday 12 June. All refund information will be posted on TheFA.com.”
