Job Purpose:- 

• To manage all Professional Game and National Game matters at The FA and to ensure where appropriate, The FA develops integrated policy for the game as a whole.

• To oversee the co-ordination of services and functions provided by The FA to The FA Premier League, Football League, FIFA, UEFA and other football associations and confederations to ensure that Professional Game interests are best represented on the Executive Team.

• To oversee the co-ordination of services and functions provided by The FA to County FA’s, the National Game and Grass Roots Football and to ensure that National Game interests are best represented on the Executive Team.

• To ensure that The FA Strategic Vision is implemented, with The FA working harder with the professional game to assist in all aspects of football and works in partnership with them.

• To be responsible for the implementation of the National Game Strategy, its annual monitoring, and reporting on progress.

Key Accountabilities

Professional Game Board

• Act as a main point of contact at The FA on all matters relating to the Professional Game save for Club England.

• Build and maintain a close working relationship with the PGB and its Chairman.

• In conjunction with the PGB Chair, ensure that the PGB is functioning efficiently in the interests of The FA and in accordance with the PGB Terms of Reference.

• Make recommendations to the PGB and the CEO on the most efficient structure and staffing to deliver the best service to the Professional Game.

• Liaison with FIFA, UEFA, Football Regulatory Authority, NGB, other football associations, confederations and stakeholder groups and other committees on activities which affect or impact upon the Professional Game.

• Close liaison with other FA Executive Team members as necessary to coordinate delivery by The FA executive of services to the Professional Game.

National Game Board

• Advise NGB and make recommendations on the most efficient structure and staffing to deliver the best service to the National Game and for implementation of the National Game strategy.

• Build and maintain a close working relationship with the NGB and its Chairman.

• Liaison with FIFA, UEFA, Football Regulatory Authority, PGB, NG sub-committees, Council and Committees of Council and other football affiliated associations and confederations on activities which affect or impact upon the National Game.

• Close liaison with other FA Executive Team members as necessary to coordinate delivery by The FA executive of services to the National Game.

FA Competitions Administration (including The FA Cup)

• Ensure that all FA competitions are administered in a timely and effective manner.

To undertake any other such tasks that may be reasonably determined by the Chief Executive to be within the scope of the Director’s role.

Person Specification (Key Skills And Experience Required)

• Demonstrable understanding of all aspects and levels of the Professional Game and National Game.

• Experience of developing and leading strategy and policy at a senior level.

• Good links/experience with professional clubs and leagues.

• Experience of working with Boards and Committees.

• Understanding and proven experience in implementing and leading in change management.

• Ability to lead, build and motivate an effective Professional Game and National Game team to ensure they have the capability and resources to provide the quality of service and advice required by the key stakeholders.

• Oversee management of significant Professional and National Game budgets within specific financial parameters.

• Capable of influencing a diverse set of stakeholders.

• Proven track record of delivering results and raising performance in a complex environment within established targets.

• Understanding of key operational, marketing and logistical requirements of the Professional and National Game in terms of facilities, resource and investment requirements.

• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels therefore acting as Ambassador to the Game on behalf of The FA.

• Excellent written, listening and presentational skills.
