The FA’s Nigel Hargreaves and John Folwell are in Chile this week to deliver a football administration workshop aimed at safeguarding the amateur game in the South American country.

Chilean Football Federation president Harold Mayne-Nicholls is keen to ensure that grassroots football continues to prosper and contributes to the development of the professional game to the benefit of all Chile’s national teams.

Mayne-Nicholls, who also acts as FIFA’s Development Officer in South America, visited London at the end of July to discuss his plans for football in Chile with The FA’s Chairman Lord Triesman and was keen to acknowledge The FA’s efforts in sharing its expertise in countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Chile.

Head of International Relations Jane Bateman said: “It is important that The FA shares its expertise with other national federations, which is why The FA is happy to respond to the Chilean Football Federation’s request for an administration workshop.

“There are many challenges facing grassroots football in England so we hope our instructors will be able to share their experiences with their counterparts in Chile to good effect.

“It is a great privilege to be invited to Chile and I am sure Nigel and John will provide a valuable insight into how grassroots football is structured in England.”

The workshop is taking place in Arica in the north of Chile and 80 delegates, all of whom are involved in amateur football, will be taking part in three days of interactive sessions.
