Nigerian U13s take Wembley tour

Youngsters enjoy trip around the stadium on recent trip to England.

Last week saw the Nigeria U13 football team visit Wembley on the final day of their tour to England.

Hosted by The FA’s International Relations department, the team enjoyed lunch overlooking the pitch, followed by a Stadium Tour afterwards which includes a visit to the dressing rooms, pitchside area and the Royal Box. The boys were absolutely overwhelmed by Wembley and promised to come back one day to play at the stadium, hopefully in 2018!

The squad were in England to compete in the 2010 International Youth Championship, organised by the Premier League. It was a successful trip for them too, as the Nigerians finished top of their group after beating Liverpool 4-0, Fulham 6-0 and Birmingham 4-1 to qualify for a semi-final with the Chelsea team. They won that game 3-0, before emerging winners of the Final after a 2-0 win against Sporting CP.

The Nigerian national U13 team is a project started two years ago, with young footballers from Junior Secondary Schools nationwide selected to play on a national scale.
