Triesman leads delegation to CAF

A delegation met with the Confederation of African Football on Tuesday.

FA Chairman Lord Triesman led a delegation to the Confederation of African Football on Tuesday, meeting CAF President Issa Hayatou and members of the Executive Committee.

Both associations signed a cooperation agreement in Nigeria in January to develop African football and the aim of the visit this week was to finalise plans for the implementation process.

In welcoming the delegation President Hayatou reflected on a partnership that has existed over many years between the English and African football federations.

He said: "We have a long-standing relationship with The English FA through Meridian projects, a decade ago.

“We discussed the practical modalities of our partnership agreement, signed recently in Lagos at the last General Assembly of CAF and I have no doubt that this agreement would be mutually rewarding."

The Football Association has worked over many years on significant development projects in Africa and this recent meeting shows the desire for that work to continue and further progress the relationship between England and Africa.

It was agreed that a committee will be appointed to implement the agreement which runs for the next five years. Also in the delegation were Premier League Chairman Sir Dave Richards and FA Head of International Relations Jane Bateman.
