The day will focus on the IFC’s key messages and Professor Al Ansley-Green, the Children’s Commissioner for England, will share his experiences and thoughts on the importance of listening to and empowering children and young people.

This is a key area in which The FA is currently involved to ensure that young people have a clearly heard voice. The National Crime Squad will also launch their partnership with The FA to tackle internet abuse and offer a vision of the future in dealing with internet crime.

We will also take the opportunity to look at how grassroots clubs can be more proactive in safeguarding and the benefits of this approach. A practical way forward to support clubs will be shared. This will be further explored through one of the many workshops on offer in the afternoon session.

Other workshops include child protection issues and best practice in refereeing and The National Crime Squad offering advice and guidance on use of the internet and the issue of grooming.

A young people’s group will share their strategic thinking on consulting with children and young people. Club Welfare Officers (CWOs) will have the opportunity to complete The FA’s Designated Persons’ Training which is based on the NSPCC/CPSU ‘Time to Listen’ training package.

This is a hands-on workshop which requires individuals to consider what the CWO role means and how to develop a proactive approach to safeguarding within their own club.

There will also be workshops covering girls in football and safeguarding issues; CRB facts, figures and the picture to date; what’s ok and what’s not when it comes to use of photography in football as well as best practice being shared by and  for the professional game.

We will to provide something for those who have a comprehensive understanding of child protection issues as well as those for whom this is still a new and not fully understood area.

The workshops are presented by skilled professionals and well-informed individuals, all of whom have something unique to offer. We look forward to seeing you there.
