Nearly 90,000 people have now completed The FA’s Child Protection and Best Practice training and learning programmes, whilst Criminal Records Bureau checks are underway on all those working with children through The FA CRB Unit.

We want all children to be able to play football in a safe and enjoyable environment and Sven says putting children first is vital.

Reminiscing about his childhood in Torsby, Sweden, the England manager told of the importance of football in his young life.

"I remember when I was young we didn’t even have a television at home so the only thing we could do in a small village was sport," he explained.

"I couldn’t wait until school had finished in the afternoons so we could go out and play football.

"The club I played for it was not that well organised but anyhow we enjoyed it, and we were happy. Lots of games and lots of practices and we loved it.

"I think it shouldn’t be about winning at all, it should be about enjoying yourself.

"You need some organisation of course and you need good coaches who can handle the kids – that’s very important.

"The kids should love to come and play football – that’s the most important thing. Then you lose or you win, it doesn’t matter at all."
