Mr. Kelly said afterwards that he found the workshop stimulating, thought-provoking and very worthwhile. In his article in The Independent last week he added details of The FA's Goal campaign and reported on the excellent organisation and vision that underpinned the child protection initiative. "It is a campaign that deserves to succeed," was how Mr. Kelly finished his article.

Tony Pickerin, The FA's Head of Child Protection, thanked Graham Kelly for his comments. "We didn't know Graham was attending one of our workshops so we were surprised, to say the least, when he phoned up asking for some more background to the Goal campaign.

"I've known Graham for a long time so I was delighted to talk through the whole Goal programme.

"I didn't dare hope that Mr. Kelly would be quite so flattering in his article," added Tony. "But he's certainly done his homework and I hope he'll be proud of his FA Child protection and best practice certificate when it lands on his doorstep in the next couple of weeks."

Graham Kelly is one of 45,000 people who have now been a part of The FA's Child protection and best practice programme. Workshops and the work-at-home Guide can be ordered through TheFA.com
