Chief police officers support Goal
Wednesday, 19 February 2003.
The FA is to enhance its child protection work by developing closer links with leading police officers. The initiative follows a presentation from Tony Pickerin, The FA's Head of Ethics and Sports Equity, to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).
"We've agreed to work closely with ACPO and liaise whenever possible in case management and educational issues," said Tony.
"That means helping each other and driving forward this important work.
"We know ACPO can provide us with clear assistance when it comes to investigations, administration and some of the detail of allegations. We can help broaden their work in communicating the issues and raising the profile of child protection.
"It's a relationship that clearly works for both of us."
Tony Pickerin was one of the main speakers at the ACPO conference in Cheltenham. He explained The FA's pioneering role in child protection in sport and explained the importance of high-profile role models to carry forward the message.
Tony also expanded on The FA's child protection awareness weekend in March, when all the Premiership and Nationwide League managers will be supporting The FA's Goal campaign.
"The support of the League Managers' Association over that weekend will enable us to provide a powerful vehicle for child protection. ACPO members were very interested in the ideas," added Tony.
"I believe they are firmly behind our work and I have already thanked them for their support so far."
- On March 22nd all Premiership and Nationwide League managers will support Goal by speaking about child protection in press conferences and writing about The FA's initiatives in match programmes.
