Aman Dosanj, who was presented with a special certificate by The FA’s Chief Executive Mark Palios in a ceremony at Soho Square, says she’s looking forward to helping develop the sport amongst the Asian community.

"Some people don’t receive the right information on how to get into the game, but I had the right channels opened to me thanks to The FA who put me in touch with local teams. There were some difficulties – like winning over my parents, but they could see I was talented and wanted to go on and pursue my dreams," she recalls.

"I’ve been lucky, I haven’t experienced any racism, but it is one of the factors which discourages people. I can understand that sometimes Asians players are a bit wary, but things are improving all the time."

Working with The FA to help promote the game within the Asian community is nothing new to the 20-year-old goalkeeper, who was a contributor to the "Football for All" conference in Derby last year.

Having played for Southampton Saints women’s team and Arsenal Ladies, Aman is hoping to return to action when she fully recovers from a knee operation. "I’d love to play for Saints again. It was the first team I played for and I’ve a lot of love for them, so it would be nice to go back."

Aman, who joins a select group of current FA Ambassadors including England Women’s coach Hope Powell, knows her appointment can make a difference for others.

"Hopefully, when they hear about my achievements, others will follow and more people will realise that they can succeed in football despite the colour of their skin."
