The IFI encompasses 150 sites across England and has been developed with The FA  to support elite players in accessing inclusive training facilities near their homes.

The FA currently has seven national disability squads incorporating in excess of 100 players.

The IFI’s approach to creating inclusive facilities will not only ensure that players are able to physically access the facilities on offer, but that they will also be able to receive support and back-up from staff that have received specific training relating to exercise programming for disabled people.

Liz Hallett, IFI National Project Development Manager said: “This partnership is an example of how the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) can support the development of elite athletes.

"Now that the geographical spread of IFI facilities is more comprehensive, it is an opportunity for more National Governing Bodies of Sport to facilitate closer links with IFI Sites through the EFDS.

"This provides a real opportunity to offer community pathways for athlete development, particularly at a time when inclusive sport is very much at the forefront of people’s minds in the run up to the 2012 Paralympic Games to be held in London.”

Jeff Davis, FA Disability Football Development Manager commented: "This partnership is great news for anyone with a disability interested in getting involved in the national game.

"Maintaining fitness levels, particularly for our England players is key if we are to be competitive on the European and World stage, and this access to quality training facilities will be a massive boost.

"When The FA launched its Football Development Strategy in 2001, five key objectives were set out for Disability Football, with the overall aim of becoming the world's leading governing body in the development of Disability Football by 2006.

"The FA have increased playing opportunities and improved the quality of coaching for people with disabilities, and in the New Year will be looking to widen competitive structures for players across the country.

"I am delighted at the headway The FA has made in a reasonably short space of time, and partnerships such as this are invaluable as we seek to deliver on our commitment to disabled people."
