Charlton Athletic's Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has denied a charge of improper conduct and/or bringing the game into disrepute. He has also requested a personal hearing which will be scheduled in due course.

Hasselbaink was charged in relation to claims made in his autobiography about his former club Chelsea. In the book, he said that Chelsea had paid an additional bonus to the players following the Champions League quarter-final victory over Arsenal in April 2004. Such a payment would have breached Premier League rules. The story also appeared in the serialisation of the autobiography in the News of the World in October 2005.

The Premier League conducted a thorough inquiry into the alleged bonus payments and found no evidence to support the claims, which were denied by Chelsea. The case was therefore referred to The FA which conducted its own inquiry into Hasselbaink's conduct.
