The FA's Head of Media Relations, Adrian Bevington, explained the reasoning to TheFA.com saying: "Saturday’s incident was clearly unacceptable and we do not want to see any repeat.

"We understand the individual who entered the pitch and confronted Ian Walker was arrested and we now expect action to be taken against him, which will see him banned from entering all football stadiums.

"Thankfully, these kind of incidents are very rare in our stadiums. However, all fans should note that entering the field of play is an offence and can lead to criminal convictions."
