The most serious of the charges relates to the match against Sheffield Wednesday at Bramall Lane on 17th January 2003, when marine distress flares were fired from sections G and H of the Laver Stand, creating a highly dangerous situation which resulted in the injury of a spectator.

As a result, blocks G and H of the Laver Stand will be closed forthwith until the end of the 2003-04 season, and will not reopen until the CCTV facilities are upgraded to the satisfaction of The FA. While closed, these sections will be netted over, and will be reopened on a controlled and restricted basis.

Sheffield United also received a fine of £100,000 suspended until the end of the 2005-06 season. In addition, for the duration of the next three seasons the club will publish notices in the match programme reminding spectators of their responsibilities as regards stadium security and safety.

Sheffield United were also warned to their future conduct in connection to events at the match against Norwich City at Bramall Lane on 22nd February 2003.
