Funded by Hertfordshire Children’s fund and North Hertfordshire Minority Ethnic Forum, 'Aiming High' employs learning mentors who work with young black and minority ethnic children in the North Hertfordshire and Stevenage area.

The project aims to improve the educational achievements of black and minority ethnic children in schools. Since the project began in January 2004 they have mentored 45 children and are currently working with 28 children in 14 schools.

Many of the children on the project are keen footballers and Aiming High uses professional players as role models for the children.

After reading about The FA's Show Racism the Red Card campaign on TheFA.com, the children have been working on the theme of anti-racism and have designed posters accordingly.

Aiming High flag bearersTo recognise the children’s efforts The FA Customer Relations team invited them all to be official flag bearers at England’s U19 game at Wycombe Wanderers FC and carry the ‘Kick it Out’ flag onto the pitch.

The children then took their seat to see England get back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Switzerland. West Ham United striker Moses Ashikodi scored both goals in the second half in a convincing win for Martin Hunter’s team.

For many of the children it was the first time they had been to a football match and an experience they will never forget.

The FA continues to work to combat racism in football to ensure the game is free from racial prejudice.

We would like to thank the mentors from Aiming High for their positive contribution towards football, by educating the next generation of football fans and players; there is no place for racism in the game and our changing society.
