FA Chairman David Bernstein is keen to resolve England player-release issues with clubs

David Bernstein has revealed talks with clubs are ongoing as The Football Association attempt to find a solution over the issue of player release for international matches.

With a big summer of football coming up in 2013, FA Chairman Bernstein, England manager Roy Hodgson and Under-21 head coach Stuart Pearce are all keen to resolve the matter.

Hodgson’s senior Three Lions squad head to Brazil in June, with Pearce’s U21s in the Euro Finals the same month and the U20s in World Cup action in July.

And with potential tournament football for England U19s and U17s around the same time too, Bernstein is keen to make sure there are no problems regarding player release from the clubs.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "Player release is a key matter for us and being able to get the players, not just for the mandatory games where there is compulsory call-ups, but also for other games as well.

"It’s important for the development teams. For example, the U21s Finals is a wonderful tournament, where players can't get any better experience of playing against top quality opposition.

"There are only eight nations playing there and all of them are high quality, in a very hot climate so that will be a great experience for the players.”

Hodgson, Pearce and Bernstein will be meeting club managers and chairmen in order to come to an agreement over the matter.

And having had a foot in both camps following his spell as Manchester City chairman, Bernstein understands the interests of both parties.

He added: "There is a lot of work being done in terms of getting co-operation from the clubs.

"I understand their position, as I've been a chairman at a Premier League club myself so I understand the pressures and the issues and responsibilities.

"Roy Hodgson has been a coach,of clubs and internationally, all around the world so he understands the issues.

"I think it's just give and take.”
